Page Break at End throws unwanted additional blank page in PDF
Originally posted as "Extra Page Break thrown in Export to PDF" - however I
thought this might be misinterpreted as a page size issue.
We have a report which has a group. The "Page Break at End" option is
checked for the group. The report renders correctly in the report manager
with totals immediately under the last group.
Unfortunately, when exporting to PDF, an additional blank page is added.
Can this be avoided?
Note, the report has three tables which are directly on top of each other -
the tables are all sitting within a rectangle.
many thanks
MattJust a thought - Could I edit the RDL file directly and put a condition in
the PageBreak at End element - is this an possibility?

after the last group - in my case, it's a grand total field

Hopefully some of these kinds of things will be fixed as time goes forward,
I have yet to be able to eliminate all of the extra pages as well...

The issue seems to be where you have something appearing after the last
group. If there is nothing after the last group, the report exports to PDF
correctly. But because I want grand totals I have not been able to simply
put a summation in the table footer.
Firstly, I am using a stored procedure as my report data source.
I added two additional fields to my stored procedure result set a) a grand
total field and b) a last group flag.
I then put the grand total field into a footer row of the outermost group
and set the hidden property to an expression including the Last Group flag
which evaluates to false when at the last group.
This is not a particularly complex thing to work around - but was quite
painful as I resist having to use unintuitive solutions such as this because
they make maintenance more difficult :)
Note: I would have used pagenumbering to determine the last page but
unfortunately, the Global values for Pagenumber and TotalPages are not
accessible within the body of the report.

Padding blank spaces when exporting to PDF?
I want to export the content of my textbox to PDF and can't find the way to save it's formating on pdf.
I'm creating a report for invoice. I have one TextBox at the end of report for displaying terms of payment.
There can be several paragraphs in this text. This text is stored in one column, which is nvarchar, in database.
Is there any way to keep the blank spaces that I use at the beginning of paragraph? Is there any non-printable character that
won't be ignored when trying to insert a new paragrapf in PDF? I can't use tab and blank spaces-these are ignored. And I don't
know how many paragraphs there will be-this changes.Pozdrav!|||
I'm not sure but can't you do something like this:
Write custom code that evaluates the string. The custom code will iterate through the string and will evaluate each character. If it is a " " (space), then add another value to a counter. Then you know how many spaces there are in a string.
|||Yes, but I can't find the way to put those blank spaces at the beginning of each paragraph.
They are ignored. It is not that I don't know how many blank spaces there will be, I simply
don't know how to make them appear on my PDF.

Package Stuck on "Pre-Execute phase is beginning."
Hi all,
I have a monster SQL query (SQL Server connection) that I'm trying to export to flat file. My package appears to just stick on the "Pre-Execute phase is beginning" stage. (I left it running overnight, and it's still going... no error message, I think it's just hung. If I include a "Top 10" in the my source query it completes without a problem. I'm wondering if it's an out-of-memory issue, but when I've run into this in the past there have been error messages generated. I've tried using both a Data Reader and an OLEDB Datasource. Does anyone have any ideas of what's going on and how I might fix it?
Thanks!!!
JessYou should run the query in management studio and look at its explain plan... Chances are that it has nothing to do with SSIS. Perhaps you have locks in place that are blocking parts of this query such that it never completes? You could always wrap the query into a view and use the view as the source to your package. That might help the pre-execute phase.
Also, try setting your DelayValidation property to TRUE for the connection manager that's being used for this query.|||
Thanks for your response. I finally got it working. Our off-shore team actually wrote the query for this project and it was fairly convoluted. I just have the pleasure of actually trying to RUN it.
Anyhow, there was no descernable blocking from sp_who2 'active.' While switching the source query over to a view (per your suggestion), I discovered that the source sql inserted a number of records into a (non-indexed) table variable via a cursor. Placing this data into a permanent, indexed table seems to be the change that got the package working.
I've done some more testing, and whenever I use a table variable in the source query I seem to get stuck at "Pre-Execute." Is this by-design?
Thanks again for your input.
Jess
|||Hi Jessica,
It is never by design to get stuck.
Pre-execute is the time when your queries get prepared and all the problems in them are likely to show up at that point. Looking at the SQL Profiler might help you figure out what exactly is causing issues while queries are processed.

P.S. Tasks > Export
I have spent the last 2 months or so designing and modeling my new application backend in SQL Server 2005 Express edition.
I am ready to move it to a production copy of SQL Server 2005.
How do I go about this?
What kind of words can I put into google to bring some sort of results.
I have been looking in many places but no luck on how to take all the tables I have made (some with data, some not) and copy them to a live SQL 2005 Server.
Thanks in Advance for any help.
When I right-click on the Database in the Manager, I choose Tasks..
But Import / Export options are NOT THERE.
What do I do?
Why is this option not in my instance of SQL Express.
Thank you.
|||Depending on how you want the database hosted you could use detach/attach, backup/restore or scripting of schema and data.|||How can I produce a schema? I'm assuming that is what I need to do. I am moving the database from my local machine (SQL Server Express) to a hosted SQL Server 2005 machine.
Thank you for your help,
Jon
|||You would need to write a few lines of code that call SMO.|||Jon,I am in the same boat with my Express db. I have signed up with CrystalTech for hosting. Did you find a good solution to your problem?

Overwrite SQL exported Excel sheet with new data
I have set up a DTS package to export data to an excel sheet. If I schedule it the data appends to the exisitng data in the sheet.
How do I overwrite the data or update the data in sheet so that I may schedule a fresh updated copy to be sent to same file?
Thanks

In the create table task, add a drop table :
DROP TABLE `myexcelsheetname`
GO
CREATE TABLE `myexcelsheetname` (
`tDescription` LongText ,
`tIdentifier` VarChar (16) ,
`tUpdateDate` DateTime
)
